  1. FRIDAY, MARCH 30, 2012

March 30, 2012 by Brian Smith

BRIAN SMITH is the same Brian Smith of (the former)  SMITH AND BARBER, THE MORNING SHOW on WPLR… his (former) solo afternoon talk show on WICC 600AM, and (the once) host announcer for the Bridgeport Bluefish baseball and the Fairfield University Stags basketball games at Harbor Yard… and now part of the team at FM NEWS NEW YORK 101.9FM… you can email him at:

BACK UP YOUR STUFF. Here’s a handy reminder if you have your own website.  BACK UP YOUR STUFF.  You can buy an external hard drive cheaper than a case of Everclear… and if you have a back-up of your stuff, you won’t need the case of Everclear.  So, BACK UP YOUR STUFF and save your liver.

Everclear, by the way, is a cheap grain alcohol.

An external hard drive is something I will be using to back up this website from now on.  The magic place where the internet is stored is very unforgiving, and somewhat opportunistically sadistic… which is why I’m still putting things back together here…  my thanks to BrianSmithRadio initiator Pete Sachs for investigating the website wipeout.  And again, thanks to Dan for finding a lot of the old material online.

THE VOICE was in Florida this week, meeting with players and giving them some tips on everything from putting more sink into their fastballs to where to rent the best mansions in the NYC/CT/Long Island (and New Jersey) area… he also got a few of the Yankees, Phillies, and Red Sox to agree to stop by for the Thursday night Arm Wrestling league at The Prognosticator Grill and Cafe this summer.  He politely asked all the Mets players to take the year off and focus on their turf game…  except Pelfrey.  THE VOICE says it can only make him better.  THE VOICE has sent along his inside look at MLBTHE NFL… pictures of Tim Tebow with the Jets… Arena FootballTennis in FranceTHE NBA… and the CHEERLEADERS… and more… go to Sports Picks at BrianSmithRadio.com, or just click (here)…

    AND NOW…

HURRICANE WINDOW TAPING… experts say putting that masking tape “X” over your windows before a storm does no good… and may cause more damage… think BIGGER pieces of glass flying all over your home or business… and if you have a business with big “X’s” in the windows, people are going to think you are selling Moonshine or adult magazines… read the article from CBS News, click (here)… (and hello to my cousin Erin in North Carolina)…

THE CARS OF CUBA… in Cuba, the shipments of cars from the United States ended in 1960… so their world of cars is completely different than ours… cars on their roads are from the 40′s and 50′s, continuously restored (with artistic ingenuity and a welding torch)… and are handed down like heirlooms from one generation to the next… Visitors to Cuba can make a lot of friends and make a lot of deals with a handful of new spark plugs as currency…  check out some pictures and the story from Hagerty.com, click (here)…

FROM NASA… THE SCALE OF THE UNIVERSE… click the big START button, and then move the slider on the bottom of the page back and forth… you will go from objects smaller to microbes… through the sizes of sand grains… humans… buildings… planets… galaxies and beyond…  it’s fun, educational, and better than work… from NASA, click (here)…

Have a good weekend… drive safely… and if you are on Long Island, please… please… please… pay attention to which way your are heading on the highways… thanks for listening… -Brian

THE VOICE flew was back from his island tour this week…  he’s working on the Baseball Wing of The Prognosticator Grille and Cafe… there is going to be a Cuban page to the menu this year… THE VOICE is upset about the upheaval at BrianSmithRadio.com… I told him it was just the way the internet works… stuff “get’s lost” sometimes…

We’re still working on the restoration process…. a big thanks to Dan for scouring the web for past material…

THE VOICE is looking into the Payton Manning saga again this week… also, a look at ARENA FOOTBALL… an inside look at MLB SPRING TRAININGTENNISNFL… and, yes.. more CHEERLEADERS… to check out this weeks contribution from THE VOICE… go to the SPORTS PICKS PAGE… or just click (here)…

    Happy Friday… here’s some… stuff… and somehow… it’s all car-related things… it must be spring…

10 CARS THAT REFUSE TO DIE… look around on the road… (not now!)… and you are probably going to see at least one of these long-lasting models… cars that seem to go forever and then some… and owners who keep them that long… (I would add the Toyota Camry to this list… )… from Kiplinger’s, click (here)…

10 WORST CARS OF ALL TIME... I had a few of these… including a Vega… but my cousin Sue gave it to me, and that made it excellent… and it was perfect for hauling rock band equipment around when I was doing that… unfortunately, I was better at moving amplifiers than playing the instruments involved… anyway, check out the 10 worst (arguably) cars ever… if you think of others, let me know… from The Street, click (here)…

VIDEO: INVISIBLE MERCEDES… the Mercedes engineers took an SUV… covered one side with LEDs… the kind you would have in a television… and on the other side.. they placed video cameras looking out… the result?… a pretty good version of an invisible vehicle.. the car is in that picture on the left… see the commercial on YouTube,  click (here)…

Just a few this week… enjoy the spring weather in the CT/NYC/Long Island area… and good luck with your NCAA brackets… thanks for listening.., and check out FM News New York 101.9 fm…  -Brian

March 2, 2012 by Brian Smith

Work continues on getting this website back to full speed…

and hello to my new friends I’ve met on the train back and forth from NYC…

BRIAN SMITH is the same Brian Smith of  SMITH AND BARBER, THE MORNING SHOW on WPLR… his solo afternoon talk show on WICC 600AM, and host announcer for the Bridgeport Bluefish baseball and the Fairfield University Stags basketball games at Harbor Yard… and now part of the team at FM NEWS NEW YORK 101.9FM… you can email him at:

This isn’t a sports website, but sports is one of the things we hit on when necessary…  but if you are new, please take a look at our weekly featured predictor of all things sports and life… THE VOICE

THIS WEEK…  THE VOICE looks back at the Oscars, where his predictions were 5 for 7… he also takes a look at the new WILDCARD POSITIONS FOR THE MLB PLAYOFFS… has new pictures from behind the scenes in baseball…. cheerleaders… and wonders if OPENING DAY FOR THE 2012 NFL SEASON should really start on a Wednesday… read about the opinions and predictions of THE VOICE… go to the SPORTS PICK PAGE… click (here)…

FACEBOOK ATTACKS… since the solar flares (or whatever) wiped out this website… I’ve had a few friends ask why I’m not putting things on my Facebook page… well.. it’s because I’ve been locked out of my account.  The FACEBOOK TEAM doesn’t think I am real. People with common names must get that a lot. Now they want my cell phone number, a scan of my driver’s license (with photo) and a scan of my passport (with photo)…  I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE I’M BEING SCAMMED… but so far I don’t have evidence of a phishing scam… I’m still negotiating…

    SOCIAL MEDIA EXPLAINED… and I have a question… does Google+ have a Facebook account?
